What to Expect During Your First Infusion Appointment

By:

Starting a new treatment can bring a mix of emotions. Whether you're receiving infusion therapy for the first time or transitioning from another healthcare setting, it's normal to have questions about what your appointment will be like.

At Springside Infusion, our goal is to make every visit as comfortable, safe, and stress-free as possible. Knowing what to expect can help you feel more prepared and confident before you arrive.

Before Your Appointment

Before your first infusion, our team works behind the scenes to coordinate your care. We communicate with your referring provider, verify your insurance benefits, obtain any required prior authorizations, and schedule your treatment at a convenient time.

You may receive a phone call before your appointment to review your medical history, current medications, allergies, and answer any questions you may have.

When You Arrive

When you arrive, you'll be greeted by our staff and checked in for your appointment. A registered nurse will review your medical history, take your vital signs, and explain your treatment plan for the day.

If this is your first infusion, we'll take extra time to answer your questions and explain each step of the process.

During Your Infusion

Your nurse will place an IV and begin your medication according to your provider's order. Throughout your treatment, our clinical team will monitor you closely to ensure you're comfortable and responding well.

Depending on the medication prescribed, infusion times can range from less than an hour to several hours. During your visit, you're welcome to relax, read, work on a laptop, watch a movie, or simply rest.

After Your Treatment

Once your infusion is complete, your nurse will remove your IV and review any post-treatment instructions with you. Some medications require a brief observation period before you leave, while others allow you to head home shortly after your infusion is finished.

Before you leave, we'll also help schedule your next appointment if additional treatments are needed.

Our Commitment to Your Care

Every patient deserves compassionate, personalized care. At Springside Infusion, we strive to create a welcoming environment where patients feel supported throughout every stage of treatment. Our team works closely with your referring provider to ensure your care remains coordinated from your first appointment through your ongoing therapy.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to prepare before my infusion?

Your healthcare provider may give you specific instructions depending on your medication. In general, it's a good idea to stay hydrated, eat a light meal beforehand unless instructed otherwise, wear comfortable clothing with sleeves that can be rolled up, and bring a list of your current medications if needed.

Can I bring someone with me?

Policies may vary depending on the infusion center and available space. If you'd like a family member or caregiver to accompany you, please contact Springside Infusion before your appointment so we can let you know our current visitor guidelines.

What should I bring to my appointment?

Please bring a photo ID, your insurance card, and any paperwork requested by your provider or our office. Many patients also bring a book, headphones, tablet, or other items to help pass the time comfortably.

Will I be able to drive home afterward?

Most infusion treatments do not prevent patients from driving themselves home. However, some medications may cause drowsiness or require observation after treatment. If your prescribed medication has these effects, we'll let you know in advance so you can arrange transportation if needed.
